RIT men’s lacrosse head coach Jake Coon has accomplished more in six seasons then what some coaches accomplish in a career. Coon has led the Tigers to an astounding 109-15 record, six straight conference titles, and six straight trips to the NCAA Div. III Tournament, including the Tigers first-ever appearance in the National Championship game in 2013. Coon is a 2001 graduate of Nazareth College, where he excelled on the field, helping the Golden Flyers to four straight tournament appearances including the 1997 and 1998 NCAA Division III National championship game. He was a four-time All-American, two-year captain, and a two-time Division III Goalie of the Year selection. Coon was inducted into the Nazareth College Hall of Fame in 2009. After graduation, he played professionally for the Rochester Knighthawks of the NLL from 2000-2003. Coon played for the Rochester Rattlers of the MLL from 2001-2005 and the Boston Cannons from 2005-2009.

A native of Skaneateles, NY, Kevin was a four year standout earning multiple First Team All League honors for Section 3. A gold medalist at the Empire State Games in 1994, Kevin represented Central NY. He began his collegiate lacrosse career at Syracuse University before transferring to Nazareth College. As a Golden Flyer Leonard was named a defensive All-American in 2000. Kevin went on to be an Assistant Lacrosse Coach for the Golden Flyers in 2001, 2002 where he specialized as the defensive coach.

A four-year men’s lacrosse standout, Eric was named a three-time All-American as a midfielder and two year captain. He amassed 153 career points, including 129 goals to rank among Nazareth’s all-time leaders. In 2001 Goodberlet was named Division III Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year. He helped Nazareth reach the national championship game in 1998 and to semifinal appearances in 2000 and 2001. Goodberlet led Nazareth to a four-year record of 53-8 and four straight NCAA Tournament berths. In 2001 he was selected to compete in the Division III North-South Senior all-star game. For the 2002 and 2003 seasons, Goodberlet joined the Golden Flyers coaching staff. In 2010 Goodberlet was inducted into the Nazareth College Sports Hall of Fame.

A native of Pittsford NY, Steven Played 4 years of Varsity lacrosse for Pittsford. He began his collegiate lacrosse career at Nazareth before transferring to RIT. A 3 year starter, he finished his career with a 60.1 win percentage at the faceoff X. He is now a part of head coach Jake Coon’s coaching staff at RIT and Grizzly.

A native of Rochester NY and Aquinas graduate, Moss has joined the Grizzly lacrosse coaching staff and is currently on Jake Coons staff at RIT.

Moss, a 2009 graduate of Adelphi University, and was an assistant coach at Churchville-Chili three season, before assuming the head coacing roll in 2014 leading Churchville-Chili to a third place finish in the Monroe County Division 3 in 2014. He was named the Monroe County Division 3 Coach of the Year in 2014.

In addition to coaching, Moss played six years of professional lacrosse in Major League Lacrosse (MLL).  In 2015, he played for the Rochester Rattlers and helped guide his hometown team to a first-place regular season finish and a trip to the 2014 MLL Championship game. Before playing with Rochester, Moss spent three years with the Hamilton Nationals and another two years with the Long Island Lizard. Moss was the 39th player taken in 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft by Long Island.

Prior to his professional career, Moss spent played two years at Adelphi University. Prior to that, Moss played at Herkimer County Community College, earning First Team All-American and the Region III Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Coach Ballou is a 1998 graduate of Irondequoit high school where he was a starting defenseman for three seasons.  He was a first team all conference selection in his final two seasons and was also named to the 1997 Western Empire State team,  a 1998 team captain, team MVP, Senior All Star Game Selection, and High School All American. He moved on to play collegiately at SUNY Geneseo where he started every game of his career and earned all conference honors in each of his four seasons.  In his senior season he was also a team captain, team MVP, and the first ever player to be selected to the North South All Star Game. After graduation Coach Ballou returned to Geneseo as an assistant coach. In each of his three seasons the team reached the SUNYAC Championship game, winning the title and advancing to the NCAA tournament in 2004, and in 2003 and 2005 advanced to the ECAC championship game winning the title in 2003.  He was also an assistant coach for the North Team in the 2004 North South All-Star Game. In the fall of 2005 he moved on to become the head coach of Division II Dominican College, building the program from scratch while competing in the ECC, a conference where every opponent was annually ranked in the top ten in the country. After three seasons, he left Dominican and headed back up to Rochester to become the head coach of Victor High School.  He coached Victor for two seasons helping the team make the transition from the Finger Lakes League to Monroe County. In 2010 he was named a co-head coach for the Senior All-Star Game. In 2011 he left Victor and helped coach at Irondequoit High School, the team won the sectional title and advanced to the state semi-finals. In recent years he has been an active member of Penfield Youth Lacrosse coaching both the boys and girls at all levels. He is a fifth grade teacher in the Victor Central School District and resides in Penfield with his wife Laura and their three children

Coach Fiorentino is entering his fourth season as the Head Coach at SUNY Geneseo. Fiorentino came to Geneseo after serving as an assistant coach at Rochester Institute of Technology where he was the recruiting coordinator and defensive assistant for the Tigers. He also was the Chief Operating Officer for the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Rochester Rattlers, with responsibilities that included working with sponsorship sales, public relations, marketing, game day operations and ticket sales during the 2016 season.

Prior to his time in Rochester, Fiorentino served as the head assistant coach at Cortland, helping lead the Red Dragons to a pair of State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships as well as two NCAA Division III Tournament Quarterfinal appearances.Fiorentino spent three seasons as associate head coach at Ohio Wesleyan from 2010-13. Overseeing recruiting and academic advising efforts for the program, he also guided the Battling Bishops’ offensive efforts during a run of three-consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances as well as the inaugural North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championship in 2013.

A 2008 Salisbury graduate, Fiorentino was appointed to Berkman’s staff after three seasons as a player on the squad. Primarily a back-up goalie, Fiorentino’s playing career was highlighted by back-to-back starts after being pressed into service to finish Salisbury’s run to the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championship.

A native of Baldwinsville, N.Y., Fiorentino currently resides in nearby Honeoye Falls with his wife, Kaitlyn.

Coach Carlsen is a graduate of Penn Yan Academy where he played and learned from two of the best high school coaches in the country, Coach Queener and Coach Hobart. Coach Carlsen continued his playing career at RIT where was a 2x captain and led the 1999 Tigers to the National Semifinals. At the time of graduation, Carlsen was the highest scoring midfielder to ever play for the Tigers. He was named a D3 All-American in 1999. After RIT, Coach Carlsen played 3 seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks. Coach Carlsen has followed up his playing career with an equally impressive coaching career thus far. He spent 11 years as an assistant at Fairport where he earned multiple Section V Assistant Coach of Year awards. He has since taken over the head coaching duties at Wayne Central for the past 3 years where he has led the Eagles to their first ever finals appearance while also being named Section V Head Coach of the Year. Coach Carlsen lives in Macedon with his wife Danielle, 4 year-old twins Avery and Blake and 1 year old daughter Maddy. Coach Carlsen is passionate about coaching kids and passing on the knowledge of the game that he has learned from the great coaches he has played under and worked with. He takes great pride in seeing kids putting in the work and achieving their goals!

John Hanss is a 2004 graduate of Irondequoit High School where he played 4 years of Varsity lacrosse and hockey, helping each team to Section Five championships in 2001. He attended Nazareth College and played regularly as a LSM under the tutelage of Head Coach Rob Randall and, for one season, Assistant Coach Jake Coon. While at Nazareth, Hanss helped guide the Golden Flyers to 2 Empire 8 Championships, 2 NCAA Tournament appearances, and 2 ECAC Upstate Championships. He was recognized as a First Team Empire 8 all-star in both his Junior and Senior seasons. After graduating from Nazareth in 2008, Hanss went on to coach lacrosse at the Varsity and JV level in Victor and Irondequoit prior to his current Varsity Assistant position at Wayne Central in Ontario, NY which he has held since 2015 working with Coach Eric Carlsen. While at Wayne, Coach Hanss has helped lead the Eagles to three league titles and the program’s first All-American. Coach Hanss enjoys coaching lacrosse for student-athletes who love the game and want to get better. Hanss is a teacher in the Wayne Central School District and currently lives in Ontario with his wife and two kids.

Adam graduated from Brighton High School in 1995 where he was a three year starter at attack and defense. He received all county honors during the 1994 and 1995 seasons and was a Team Captain in 1995. He went on to play lacrosse and hockey at SUNY Canton from 1995-97.  He was selected to the All Regional Team for NJCAA  both years and served as Team Captiain both years.  While at SUNY Canon, he was a member of the Men’s National Champinonship Hockey team in 1997.  He went on to play for Drexel University and led them to their best year in program history during the 1997-98 season.  He was selected for the America East All Conference team and  the Drexel University All Decade Team for the 1990’s.  He has held varying levels of Coaching responsibilities on the girls lacrosse side for Penfield Youth lacrosse, including Girls Youth Coordinator for 2017.  He has coached at the youth through modified level and is currently a Head Coach for Penfield Boys Youth lacrosse.  He is a life long lacrosse/hockey player and has a deep passion for Coaching youth players in and around Upstate NY.
